Best Slam runs came at Roland Garros

Gilbert’s top Grand Slam result was the round of 32, and he reached it twice, both at the French Open in 1992 and 1993. Across his 22 Slam appearances, that was his only result better than the round of 64.

His strongest season was 1994

In 1994 he played all four majors and produced his best yearly spread: round of 64 at the Australian Open and US Open, plus round of 128 at Wimbledon and the French Open. That was his only season with two round-of-64 finishes.

Early-career peak came quickly, then plateaued

Gilbert’s best result arrived in just his second Slam season, when he made the round of 32 at the 1992 French Open at age 23. After that, he never improved on that mark, and his later results mostly stayed between the round of 64 and round of 128.

He was a French Open specialist relative to the rest of his Slam record

Of his 10 match wins, two of his three best runs came at Roland Garros, and his only round-of-32 finishes were there. By contrast, his Wimbledon record never got past the round of 64, and his Australian Open and US Open results topped out at the round of 64.

Career ended with a late French Open appearance

His Grand Slam span ran from 1991 to 1999, and his final listed Slam was the 1999 French Open, where he lost in the round of 128 at age 30. That closed a nine-year Slam career with 32 matches and a 10-22 record.
