Peak results came in a three-year Australian Open run

Gregory’s best Grand Slam showings were all at the Australian Open: R16 in 1975, 1977 (January), 1977 (December), and 1978. That makes four of her 17 Slam appearances, and it is the only tournament where she reached the round of 16.

Her strongest season was 1977 by volume of deep runs

In 1977 she reached the R16 twice at the Australian Open, first at age 21 and then at age 20 in the December edition. No other year in the data shows multiple results at the same best round.

She was most productive early, then gradually slipped back

From age 17 to 22, Gregory’s results progressed from R64 to R32 to repeated R16s, then to R64 at age 22 in 1978 and R32 at age 23 in 1979. After that, her results settled at R64 or worse: R64 in 1980, R64 and R128 in 1981, and R128 in 1983.

Australian Open was clearly her main stage

She played the Australian Open eight times and produced her entire set of top-four results there: four R16s, two R32s, and two R64s. By contrast, her French Open results never went beyond R64, and Wimbledon peaked at R64.

Her career ended with a sharp drop-off after 1981

Gregory’s last season before the gap was 1981, when she played four Slams and went no further than R64. Her only post-gap appearance was Wimbledon in 1983, where she exited in R128 at age 27.
