Peak came at Wimbledon in 1972

Țiriac’s best Grand Slam result was the Wimbledon quarterfinal in 1972, reached at age 33. That was his only result beyond the round of 16, making it the clear high point of his 20-tournament Slam career.

Most of his Slam runs ended early

Across 46 matches, his most common outcomes were first-week exits: 7 losses in the round of 64, 4 in the round of 128, and 3 in the round of 32. Only three results reached the round of 16 or better.

Wimbledon was his most productive major

Wimbledon produced his best finish, his only round-of-16 appearance, and multiple deeper runs: R32 in 1971 and R64 in 1968, 1969, 1970, plus 1975 and 1978. No other Slam shows that many distinct positive results.

His strongest stretch was 1970-1972

From 1970 through 1972, he posted his best cluster of results: French Open R16 in 1970, Wimbledon R32 in 1971, and Wimbledon R16 plus US Open R64 and French Open R64 in 1972. That three-year span contains all of his top-end finishes.

He remained active into his late 30s

His final Grand Slam appearances came in 1977 and 1978, at ages 38 and 39. The 1978 Australian Open R64 and Wimbledon R128 show he was still competing nearly a decade after his first Slam entries in 1968.
