Peak came at Roland Garros in 1984

Sundström’s only quarterfinal run was the 1984 French Open, reached at age 20. That stands out as his best Grand Slam result, ahead of three round-of-16 finishes and two round-of-32 finishes.

French Open was clearly his strongest major

Across six French Open appearances, he reached at least the round of 32 five times and twice made the round of 16 or better. His French Open results were Q, R16, R16, R64, R32, and R64, a much deeper profile than at the other Slams.

He was most productive in 1983-1985

His best stretch came over three seasons: 1983 produced R16 at the French Open and R32 at Wimbledon, 1984 added the quarterfinal in Paris, and 1985 included another French Open R16. Those years contain all of his deepest runs.

Late-career results dropped sharply

After reaching the French Open round of 32 in 1987, his final recorded Slam was a first-round exit at the 1988 Australian Open. That followed three straight first-round losses in 1986-1987 at the US Open and Wimbledon.

He was a consistent main-draw presence but rarely broke through

Over 21 tournaments and 44 matches, Sundström finished 23-21, a narrow 52% winning record. The distribution shows steady participation with only one result beyond the round of 16, and most finishes clustered between R64 and R128.
