Four titles, all in a five-year peak

Vilas won four Grand Slam titles between 1977 and 1979: French Open and US Open in 1977, then Australian Open in 1978 and 1979. That entire title run came within five seasons, with no titles listed before or after it.

French Open was his deepest and most durable event

His French Open record includes one title, two finals, one semifinal, two quarterfinals, and multiple later-round exits, spanning 1972 through 1989. No other Slam shows that many deep runs in the data.

Best overall Slam volume came at the US Open

The US Open is the only Slam where he reached every stage from R128 to champion, including a semifinal in 1975 and 1976, a final in 1977, and another semifinal in 1982. It is also his most frequent source of late-round results outside Paris.

His peak years were concentrated in his mid-20s

All four titles came at ages 24 to 27, and his other major finals also fell in that same band: French Open in 1975 and 1978, Australian Open in 1977, and French Open again in 1982 at age 29. The data shows his strongest Slam stretch before age 30.

Late-career decline was steep after age 33

From age 33 onward, his results are mostly early exits: French Open R64 in 1987 and 1988, R128 in 1989, plus R128 at Wimbledon and the US Open in 1986. The only exception in that span is a French Open quarterfinal in 1986.
