Two quarterfinal runs define the peak

Monami’s best Grand Slam results were two quarterfinals, both at the Australian Open in 1997 and 1999. No other Slam run went beyond the round of 16, making those two results the clear ceiling of her career.

1998-99 was her strongest two-year stretch

Her career ended with a sharp drop in 2000

After reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon and the round of 32 at the US Open in 1999, she fell back to round-of-64 exits at the Australian Open and French Open in 2000, plus a round-of-128 loss at Wimbledon. That final season was her weakest since 1996.
