Two semifinal peaks, eight years apart

Stockton’s best Grand Slam results were two semifinals: Wimbledon in 1974 at age 23 and the French Open in 1978 at age 27. Those are his only results beyond the quarterfinal stage.

His strongest stretch came in the mid-1970s

From 1974 through 1977, he reached at least the round of 16 in every Grand Slam appearance listed, including a Wimbledon semifinal, a US Open quarterfinal, and another US Open quarterfinal. That four-year run is his clearest concentration of deep results.

US Open was his most frequent and productive major

He played the US Open 16 times, far more than any other Slam in the table, and produced both semifinals, both quarterfinals, and four round-of-16 finishes there. His overall Grand Slam record of 48-31 was built heavily on that event.

Late-career results fell sharply after age 30

After turning 30, his best listed result was the US Open round of 32 in 1981 at age 30. From ages 31 to 33, every result shown is a first-round exit or a round of 64 loss.

His career spans the transition from teenage debut to age 33 finish

Stockton’s Grand Slam record begins with the 1968 US Open at age 17 and ends with first-round exits at Wimbledon and the US Open in 1984 at age 33. Across 31 tournaments and 79 matches, he finished with a 61% win rate.
