Peak came at the 1982 French Open

Hooper’s best Grand Slam result was the round of 16 at the 1982 French Open, achieved at age 23. That was his only result better than the round of 32 across 19 tournaments.

1982 was his strongest Slam season

He reached three different second-week-adjacent stages in 1982: R16 at the French Open, R32 at the US Open, and R64 at Wimbledon. No other year in the data shows more than one result above R128.

Wimbledon was his best repeated venue

His top Wimbledon finish was R32 in 1985, and he also reached R64 there in 1982 and 1983. Across four Wimbledon appearances, that makes Wimbledon his most consistently productive major by depth of run.

His Slam record was front-loaded in the early 1980s

From 1980 through 1983, he produced all 13 of his match wins and all of his best results, including R16, R32, and multiple R64 finishes. From 1984 onward, every appearance ended at R128 except the 1986 US Open R64.

He finished with a late-career fade

After reaching R64 at the 1986 US Open, Hooper’s final two Slam appearances were both first-round exits: the 1987 US Open and the 1988 Australian Open. Those results closed a career that ran from 1980 to 1988.
