Wimbledon was his most productive Slam

Across 21 Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon produced his best run three times: R16 in 1982, R32 in 1977, and R32 in 1974. It also accounts for 11 of his 21 appearances, far more than any other Slam.

His peak came in 1980-1982

Mottram reached his top Grand Slam level in a three-year stretch, with R16 at the US Open in 1980 and Wimbledon R64 in 1981 before improving to Wimbledon R16 in 1982. Those were his only results better than R32 outside Wimbledon in 1977.

He was most effective at age 22-25

His strongest results cluster between ages 22 and 25: R16 at the French Open in 1977 at 22, then repeated R32 or better finishes through age 25 in 1980. After age 25, his results never again improved beyond Wimbledon R16.

French Open was his best non-grass major

At the French Open he reached R16 once, in 1977, and R32 three times in 1978, 1979, and 1980. That is a clearer high-water mark than at the US Open, where his best was only R16 once and otherwise he exited in R128 or R32.

His career ended with a sharp drop

After reaching Wimbledon R16 at age 27 in 1982, he fell to R128 at Wimbledon in 1983 at age 28. That was his worst Wimbledon result in the dataset and a clear step down from the preceding season.
