Three quarterfinal runs define his peak

Cherkasov’s best Grand Slam result was a quarterfinal, and he reached that stage three times. Those runs came in 1990 at the Australian Open and US Open, and again at the 1992 French Open.

1991 was his deepest all-around Slam season

He played all four majors in 1991 and produced his only round-of-16 result, at the French Open. The other three events that year ended in the round of 64 or round of 128, making 1991 his most balanced high-end season.

His two quarterfinals in 1990 and his round-of-16 in 1991 all came at ages 19 and 20. After turning 22, his results were mostly first- or second-week exits, with no further quarterfinals.

The results list shows Soviet Union in 1989-1991, Unified Team in 1992, and Russia from 1993 onward. That transition is visible across the same Grand Slam career, which ran from 1989-1994, 1996-1997, and 1999.
