Only one second-week run, at Roland Garros in 1987

His best Grand Slam result was a single R16, achieved at the 1987 French Open at age 22. Across 21 tournaments and 33 matches, that was his only appearance beyond the opening week.

French Open was clearly his strongest major

He reached his best result at the French Open and also posted his next-best finish there twice: R32 in 1985 and R64 in 1984, 1987, and 1991. His other French Open appearances were R128 in 1982, 1986, 1988, and 1990.

His peak came in a narrow age window

All of his better results clustered between ages 19 and 22: R32 at 19, R32 and R64 at 20, R128 at 21, and his career-best R16 at 22. After age 23, every recorded Grand Slam result was R128 except the 1991 French Open R64.

He was most productive in 1985-1988

Those four seasons produced 13 of his 21 Grand Slam tournaments and all of his top results, including the lone R16 and both R32 finishes. In that span he also collected his only R64s outside the French Open, at the 1987 US Open and 1988 Australian Open.

His Grand Slam record was built on early exits

He finished R128 in 11 of 21 tournaments, and his overall match record was 12-21, a 36% win rate. That profile shows a career with occasional deeper runs but far more first-round or equivalent exits than sustained progress.
