Two Round-of-16 runs define the peak

Doohan’s best Grand Slam results were two R16 finishes, both in 1987: at the Australian Open at age 25 and at Wimbledon at age 26. No other result in the table goes beyond the Round of 32.

His strongest stretch came in 1984-1987

Across those four seasons he produced his only R64-or-better results repeatedly: R64 at the 1984 US Open, R32 at the 1985 Australian Open, two R128s in 1986, and then both R16s in 1987. That cluster accounts for his clear peak period.

Australian Open was his most productive major

He entered the Australian Open 8 times and reached his best results there: one R16, one R32, two R64s, and four R128s. By contrast, Wimbledon produced one R16 but mostly early exits, and the US Open never got past R64.

His Grand Slam career was long but uneven

Doohan’s Grand Slam span ran from 1979-1980 and then 1982-1991, covering 19 tournaments and 30 matches. Despite that length, his overall record was 11-19, a 37% win rate.

Late-career results were mostly first-round exits

From 1988 through 1991, every listed result was R128 except one R64 at the 1988 Australian Open. That means his final four seasons produced no run beyond the opening round after age 26.
