US Open was his only Slam every year of the career

All 15 Grand Slam appearances include the US Open, while his other majors are limited to Wimbledon and the French Open in selected years. That makes the US Open the clear backbone of his Slam schedule from age 18 in 1968 through age 27 in 1977.

His peak came at the 1973 French Open

Gerken’s best result was a round of 16, achieved only once at the 1973 French Open at age 23. His next-best finishes were three round-of-32 runs, so that 1973 result stands alone as his deepest Slam advance.

He was most productive in the early 1970s

From 1970 through 1974, he reached at least the round of 64 in every recorded Slam appearance except one, and he produced his best stretch in 1973-74. Those two seasons contain his only R16 and one R32, plus a second R32 at the 1974 US Open.

His results were strongest at the US Open

Across 10 US Open appearances, he reached the round of 32 three times and the round of 64 four times, with only one first-round exit. By contrast, his Wimbledon record tops out at one round of 64, and his French Open record includes just one round of 16.

He finished with a late-career rebound in 1977

After no recorded Slam results in 1976, he returned at age 27 and reached the US Open round of 64 in 1977. That was his final Grand Slam result and matched his career total of 30 matches split evenly at 15 wins and 15 losses.
