Career peak came in the Amateur Era

His two best Grand Slam results were quarterfinals in the Amateur Era, at the 1966 US Open and 1967 Australian Open, both at age 23. In the Open Era, his best result was only one quarterfinal-equivalent step lower: a single Wimbledon quarterfinal in 1971.

Wimbledon was his most productive major

Wimbledon accounts for 13 of his 29 Grand Slam tournaments and includes his only Open Era quarterfinal, plus four more runs to the round of 16 or better. His Wimbledon results span from a 1968 round of 16 to a 1981 first-round exit, showing both his highest ceiling and longest presence there.

From age 35 onward, his results were 1979 Wimbledon R16, 1979 US Open R128, 1980 Wimbledon R64, and 1981 Wimbledon R128. That sequence shows a clear drop from a fourth-round run at 35 to two straight first-week exits at 36 and 37.

His Grand Slam career was long but concentrated in a narrow band of results

He competed in 29 Grand Slam tournaments and won 51 of 80 matches, a 64% record. Yet 15 of his 29 appearances ended in the first two rounds listed here, at R64 or worse, while only three reached the quarterfinal stage.
