One Grand Slam final, but no title breakthrough

John Lloyd’s best result was a single finalist finish, alongside two quarterfinals and two round-of-16 appearances. Across 44 tournaments and 97 matches, his overall Grand Slam record was 53-44.

1977 was his peak season by far

His only final came at the 1977 Australian Open (Dec) at age 22. That same year also included a Wimbledon round of 64 and a French Open round of 128, making 1977 his clearest deep-run season.

Best results clustered in the early-to-mid 1980s

Both quarterfinals came in 1984 and 1985, at the US Open and Australian Open respectively. His two round-of-16 results were both in 1983, so all four of his top-fourteen finishes were concentrated in a three-year span.

Wimbledon was mostly a struggle after 1977

He reached the Wimbledon round of 32 in 1973 and 1985, but otherwise went out in the first or second round there. From 1974 through 1986, his Wimbledon results were mostly R128, with only one R64 in 1981.

Late-career decline was sharp

After the 1985 Australian Open quarterfinal, his final two Grand Slam appearances in 1986 both ended in R128. Those were his only 1986 results, and they came at age 31.
