Peak results came in a narrow 1986-1989 window

All four of Fitzgerald’s Round of 16 finishes were concentrated between 1981 and 1989: Wimbledon in 1981, Wimbledon in 1986, Wimbledon in 1989, and the Australian Open in 1983. That means his best Grand Slam level appeared repeatedly, but only within a relatively compact span of his 44-tournament career.

Wimbledon was clearly his strongest major

His career was long, but the win rate stayed below half

Across 81 Grand Slam matches, Fitzgerald went 37-44, which is listed as a 46% win rate. That combination of volume and a sub-.500 record shows sustained participation without a sustained breakthrough into the later rounds.

Late-career results were mostly early exits

From 1990 through 1994, every recorded result was Round of 128, Round of 64, or Round of 32, with no finish better than Round of 32. His last four appearances were all at Wimbledon or the Australian Open, and none matched his earlier Round of 16 peaks.
