Peak run came in 1986 at age 23

Nyström’s deepest Grand Slam result was the quarterfinals, reached three times, and one of those came in 1986 at the US Open when he was 23. That season stands out as his clearest single-year peak.

1985 was his strongest all-around Slam season

In 1985 he reached at least the round of 16 in all four majors: R16 in Australia, Q at the US Open, R32 at Wimbledon, and Q at the French Open. No other year in the data shows that level of across-the-board consistency.

His best stretch was concentrated from 1983 to 1987

Across those five seasons he produced all three quarterfinals, plus multiple R16 finishes, including four straight years with at least one R16 from 1983 through 1986. The later years then drop sharply to mostly early exits.

Late-career decline was abrupt after 1987

After the 1987 French Open R16, his remaining Slam results were R32, R32, R128, R64, R32, and R128. That sequence shows no further second-week appearance and only one result better than R64.

He was most effective at the French Open and Australian Open

His best results include one French Open quarterfinal and one Australian Open R16, and his French Open record also contains an R16 and two R32 finishes. By contrast, Wimbledon never went beyond R32, and the US Open produced one quarterfinal plus several earlier exits.
