French Open was his clear peak

His best Grand Slam results all came at the French Open: two semifinals in 1975 and 1976, plus quarterfinals in 1978 and 1979. Across his 18-tournament Slam career, that clay-court event produced four of his eight deepest runs.

All eight of his best-results finishes occurred from 1974 through 1979, with no quarterfinal-or-better result before 1974 or after 1979. That six-year span contains both semifinals, all five quarterfinals, and his lone round-of-16 showing.

His best years were 1975 and 1976

Those two seasons account for his only semifinal appearances, and each year also included a quarterfinal at the US Open. In both 1975 and 1976, he reached the last four at Roland Garros and the last eight in New York.

He was consistently competitive at the US Open, but never beyond the quarterfinals

At the US Open he posted six wins-or-better finishes: one round of 64, one round of 128, two round-of-32 results, and three quarterfinals. The quarterfinals came in 1975, 1976, and 1979, but he never advanced to a semifinal there.

His Slam career ended with a late decline

After quarterfinals in both 1978 and 1979, his final two Slam appearances dropped to the round of 32 at the 1981 French Open and the round of 64 at the 1980 US Open and French Open. Those last three results came at ages 29 and 30.
