US Open was the only Slam he played every year

Donald Young appeared at the US Open in all 14 seasons of his Grand Slam career, from 2005 through 2018. His other Slam appearances were much thinner: 8 Australian Opens, 7 French Opens, and 7 Wimbledons.

His two best Slam runs came eight years apart

Young’s best results were two Round-of-16 finishes, in 2011 and 2015, both at the US Open. Those were separated by four seasons and stand out against a career otherwise dominated by early exits.

2014-2017 was his most productive Slam stretch

Across those four seasons, he reached at least the Round of 64 in every Slam appearance except one: 2014 Wimbledon and 2015 Wimbledon both ended in R128, while 2014 Australian Open and French Open reached R32 and 2015 US Open reached R16.

His peak came in his mid-20s, not as a teenager

Young’s deepest Slam results arrived at ages 22, 24, 25, and 26, with the two R16 runs at age 22 in 2011 and age 26 in 2015. By contrast, his teenage Slam results were all R128 except a single R32 at the 2007 US Open.

Early promise faded into a long run of first-round exits

He opened with a R32 at the 2007 US Open, but from 2008 onward he recorded 13 R128 finishes across 36 tournaments. That pattern explains why his overall Slam record settled at 21-36, or 37% wins.
